The science is sound

CHRISTY Carr (March 2) says science can’t explain everything.

The science is sound

And that’s about the only correct statement in that letter. The writer also states that science says “forget everyone else. Evolution is a belief from which the common good can never be achieved, no peace or happiness, no hope or faith in anything or anyone”. Science makes no such claim, nor does it tell people to hope or not to hope. Science is not a cult, nor a dogma, it is investigation, something that certain ideologies have long opposed and indeed persecuted people for.

Science is not based entirely on guesswork, it is based on observation, measurement and logic. The example of Isaac Newton is given, and yes, he was a genius, and yet there are things we know that he did not. That is exactly the point of science, someone has an idea, it is repeatedly tested, and added to as more knowledge comes to light.
