The greater risk to public road safety

I REFER to Jimmy Woulfe’s article under “Flashing election signs’ threat to road safety”. In particular I refer to the comments of Gerry Behan, Director of Environmental Services at Limerick County Council.

The greater risk to public road safety

In describing an election candidate’s use of VMS flashing signs he is quoted as describing this as “a ferocious traffic hazard”.

I suggest that Mr Behan should consider that in ordinary use of these VMS signs the haphazard messaging, allocated time per message and viewing distances in road traffic management situations are a greater risk to the public.

Promising to “follow up this issue as a matter of urgency”, I would suggest to Mr Behan that he never drives his car in Piccadilly Circus, Time Square, Tokyo, Hong Kong or Bejing. Finally, I must caution him never to visit Las Vegas.
