Teachers overwhelmed

SO Education Minister Mary Coughlan has acknowledged that teachers beginning a career in the classroom do not have the “requisite skills” to reverse falling literacy and numeracy standards. (Feb 18).

Like any job, it takes a few years of experience to develop these skills, which cannot be taught.

Some of course will never develop these skills. To reverse falling literacy and numeracy standards, let’s begin with the real issue — overcrowded classrooms in primary schools, and primary teachers overwhelmed with bureaucratic nonsense.
