A good place to start for job creation

REMEMBER a few short years ago when the three main parties in the Dáil, and the Greens, littered the countryside with posters exhorting us to “Vote Yes for jobs” in that infamous referendum. The country voted “yes” and the country got redundancies.

A good place to start for job creation

Now they are back again, promising us jobs. I wonder are they the same jobs? I can guarantee 166 new jobs. Forget about reducing the salaries and perks of the TDs — it might never happen, but instead, compel each deputy and minister to employ, from their own means, a full-time assistant in his/her constituency, at above the minimum wage, registered for PRSI and tax. It may be the wife/husband, or sibling, or in-law, but it must be a full-time position.

Now there are 166 new jobs at no extra cost. It may be naive but it’s a start.
