Begin by restoring trust

I AM a senior citizen and as polling day nears. the same vacuous rhetoric is emanating from all the parties. We are being subjected to phoney debates, and a rush of meaningless media polls.

Why should failure and ineptitude be rewarded? We have the highest paid politicians in the world.

In September 2007, Christian Pauls, the German Ambassador to Ireland, went public about the crazy salaries of our TDs. He was astonished that our junior ministers were paid more than the German chancellor.

The new administration must begin by restoring trust. The plethora of quangos and incestuous cartels must be disbanded. A lot can be done if the goodwill of the people is regained. That bond has been broken — only when it is rebuilt can we progress as a nation with our dignity, credibility and pride restored.
