Youth not wasted

ON a recent Saturday on a ferociously wet and windy day I was boarding the 5.45pm train from Killarney to Banteer. I had an overloaded buggy and a toddler in tow, when I heard a voice behind me asking did I want help with the buggy. I gratefully thanked the young man and gladly accepted his help.

The “young man” was about 15 years old and was with about three other friends who ranged in age between 12 and 15. On the train I happened to be sitting near these fine young boys, and while I wasn’t eavesdropping, one of their mobile phones rang, and the young boy spoke to his “dad” making arrangements to attend a Confirmation Mass that evening.

Well “dad” take a bow — and mam too. What a lovely bunch of young people who alighted from the train at Rathmore. Youth is definitely not wasted on the young.
