Attacking the poor

FINE GAEL must be stark, staring mad.

After all of the hardship, mass unemployment, personal loss through emigration and every other kind of iniquity heaped on the least well-off, it says everything about the party that it sees fit to start a campaign of vilification against welfare recipients in order to disguise their planned policy of further welfare and other cuts.

The mood of the country is tinder box dry. This planned assault by Fine Gael could very well be the thing that ignites it. Asked on Tonight with Vincent Browne why Fine Gael are not willing to adopt a policy of taxing wealthier property owners instead, Leo Varadkar replied “because people wouldn’t be willing to pay it”. So that’s alright then?
