Drink driving laws are saving lives
But you wrongly attribute “some of these deaths” by suicide to “our new puritanism surrounding even the most restrained cases of drinking and driving”.
It’s not puritanical but purely logical to record the fact that some people kill themselves and/or others by drinking and driving, and also that people have serious injuries which are lifelong-disabling, owing to drinking and driving.
Life-preserving laws and habits to avoid drinking and driving are a proven help to limit road deaths and disabilities.
The good cause of community action against suicide has no need of the blurring and swerving in your editorial’s words.
