Fighting addiction - Honour is well deserved

CONFRONTING addiction, and in Ireland that more often than not means alcoholism, is always challenging. But it can be life saving and life changing too.

The addict cannot succeed without support and that means help from family and a range of community services.

In recent decades Sister of Mercy Consilio Fitzgerald has been at the forefront of the battle against addictions. With help, which she freely acknowledges, she has changed many lives and families for the better.

She has deservedly been awarded an MBE for her work and this should encourage us all to use these services if we need them and to support them if we are lucky enough not to.
