Renewal must help communities, not investors

URBAN renewal schemes have been of considerable benefit to recipients of the tax incentives and rates remission - especially developers, property owners and investors.

Whether the communities who lived in these areas benefited is another matter. Urban renewal is nothing if it does not involve investment in people.

It is not sufficient to have the renewal left to speculators and so-called investors who take advantage of the various tax breaks.
