Gift of common sense is the best gift of all

WHILE visiting Santa’s grotto with my two children just before Christmas I found Mr Claus quite unsettled. Upon enquiry, it seemed Mr Claus’s distress was caused by Oliver Moore’s letter to him (December 23).

Gift of common sense is the best gift of all

While well accustomed to the power of fantastical thinking, Santa was very concerned that Mr Moore’s request for taxpayers to fund public procurement of organic food during Ireland’s severe economic crisis was “a bit rich”. Mr Claus also thought such spending of public money was “slightly bonkers” given the massive waste of Bord Bia’s expensive misleading organic food advertising campaign that was subsequently withdrawn at the request of the Advertising Standards Authority of Ireland.

I hope my efforts to talk Santa out of delivering lumps of organic carbon (ie coal) to Mr Moore and the Green Party politicians he lauds were successful. With luck, Santa delivered the gift of common sense instead.
