We have a right to know about abuse funds
A year ago I called for an audit of all groups that have received such funding. On 6 December, 2010, your journalist Conall ÓFatharta reported that ”...the likely cost of the redress scheme for victims of abuse in residential institutions is now put at €1.1 billion” and that ”...the report (from The Comptroller and Auditor General) highlighted that the further funding of one group in particular was being examined.”
The Irish people have a right to know who got what, why they got it, and how much they got. Government has an obligation to release such information to the Irish people and groups which have supported institutional abuse must release how much funds each has received.
