They’ll be back

REFERRING to the Government in his budget day article, Fergus Finlay said it will be many, many years before this crowd is inflicted on us again.

But, the Irish don’t want good government because good government hurts a little — even in the best of times.

Liam Cosgrave and Ritchie Ryan tried to put this country right but would have needed at least two terms to do so.

Instead, that government was lampooned week in week out on RTÉ and was run out of office in 1977 when the electorate was lured by the infamous Fianna Fáil manifesto.

Five years, or so, from now I expect FF will pull a similar stunt and they will be voted back into power.
