THE Sunday Times and the BBC revealed that FIFA officials were paid large sums for their votes by the now defunct Swiss company, International Sport & Leisure.

Such revelations were obviously detrimental to the English bid for the 2018 World Cup. The fact that Russia has the World Cup finals is bad news for all Irish football fans and should we qualify it will be a disaster for our travelling fans.

The question has to be asked why did the Sunday Times and the BBC run the reports on the eve of the World Cup vote with England poised to take the spoils?
