Crisis is much bigger than party politics
I have probably less confidence in the Labour party and Fine Gael than I do in Fianna Fáil and Brian Cowen.
There is no doubt that the current government is on its last legs but I am seriously worried about the men who are set to take up the helm in the Dáil. The nation is primarily focusing on getting Fianna Fáil out rather than concerning ourselves with what we will be putting in. An immediate general election would just add to the political instability in Ireland and leave us in a state of economic limbo for a number of weeks. Holding an election now would disrupt communications with the IMF and add even further uncertainty to the Government. I believe it is time to put our heads down and pull through this crisis with Brian Cowen’s coalition. The current crisis is much bigger than petty party politics and worrying about it now shows clearly how blinded the opposition are. We are a great country and a respected country right across Europe and we will make it through this mess with our heads held high.
