Political dynasties

SO FG deputy Jim O’Keeffe’s son Michael “wouldn’t be ready to take over from him just yet” (Irish Examiner, November 15).

Since when do sons of TDs have hereditary rights to their parents’ seats? Do we voters have a say? Have these politicians still not got the message?

New TDs should be elected if they are prepared to serve the people and not just those few voters in their constituencies who come knocking at their door. Getting planning permissions, fulfilling one-off wishes and turning up at funerals will never get us anywhere.

I will be asking hard questions when canvassers come calling to my door.
