Shaw and the Kennedys – a quote in context

PLEASE allow me to put into correct order the use of the George Bernard Shaw quote by the three Kennedy brothers as commented on by Ryan Tubridy and your columnist Ryle Dwyer (October 27).

Shaw and the Kennedys – a quote in context

The correct quote is: “Some men see things as they are and say ‘why?’ I dream things that never were and say ‘why not?’ President John F Kennedy used the quote for the first time when he addressed the Dáil in 1963.

Senator Robert F Kennedy used the quote continually during his 1968 campaign for president. Senator Ted Kennedy used it at his brother Robert’s funeral when he said Robert used the Shaw quote many times as he travelled across the country.
