President by acclaim

AT long last the nation has recognised the magnificent and unselfish work that John Hume has done for the cause of peace in our country by voting him Ireland’s Greatest in the recent RTÉ series.

For more than 40 years John Hume has worked tirelessly and diligently for this country — North and South — and the peace we enjoy today is in no small way due to his hard work.

Wouldn’t it be a fitting tribute and reward for his hard work if he were to be approached by all the political parties in this country and requested to become the next president as an agreed candidate without having to go through the electoral process.

Only, of course, with John Hume’s agreement at all times.
