Positive outlook

I ATTENDED a lunch fundraiser for St Luke’s Home in Cork recently.

The guest speaker was Brendan Keating, CEO, Port of Cork, who said we should not be afraid of applauding good news on the work front as we hear very little positive news these days. How right he is.

Now for my positive news: I help out with the Cork branch of Down Syndrome Ireland (DSI). This group of people – all voluntary – opened offices on Centre Park Road this year and now employ three people – an operations manager and two speech and language therapists.

This is all achieved by fundraising. The DSI Cork branch gets no funding from the Government or the HSE.

There are great people still out there working hard even in these difficult times.
