THE prompt, overly zealous legal processing of Joe McNamara for his ‘Cementgate’ protest outside the Dáil recently brings to mind that observant anonymous 19th century verse:

“The law locks up the man or woman

Who steals the goose from off the common

But leaves the greater felon loose

Who steals the common from the goose.”

Let us hope the common’s time is nigh.
