Broadcasting award - Gogan’s golden hour

It was announced yesterday that Larry Gogan is to be presented with the Outstanding Achievement Award tomorrow night in Kilkenny. He joins an illustrious troop, including Gay Byrne, Marian Finucane, Micheál O Muircheartaigh, and Jimmy Magee of RTÉ, along with Des Whelan of WLR FM in Waterford.

Broadcasting award - Gogan’s golden hour

After more than 40 years on air as a DJ, Mr Gogan developed his own distinctive style. He was the obvious choice for 2FM when it went on the air in 1979.

His lunchtime Golden Hour attracts a quarter of a million listeners, while his Just a Minute Quiz, which is currently being considered by the Guinness Book of Records as possibly the world’s longest running quiz, has become an institution. Some of the funniest answers attributed to it never actually happened, but he is happy to let the urban myths prevail.
