Bertie reaches for his comfort blanket
The delusions of Bertie Ahern continue to provide endless amusement, like the gift that keeps on giving. Lately (September 8) he reflected on his time in office and enlightened us on what he felt was his biggest mistake.
Was it allowing the economy to become hugely dependent on unnecessary development? No.
Was it allowing public sector wages and expenditure to spiral to keep up with the inflated house and land prices? No.
Was it the relaxation of financial regulation to facilitate the easy supply of money from his banker friends to his developer friends, and thus keep the bubble inflated?
No... the biggest mistake was not having built his vanity bowl. This must cause him no end of regret. Still he can find some consolation in the fact that he continues to provide a welcome distraction from the daily gloom with occasional insights from his funny little world.
