Free travel surveillance of new welfare ID card?

THERE’S something people should be aware of in relation to the Government’s plans to include the free travel facility on the proposed welfare ID card.

At present free travel passes allow people to travel on buses and trains untracked.

But the new proposal will mean that if Bus Éireann or Irish Rail introduce an all-in, one-swipe system people will be tracked along the whole length of their journey because the card is directly associated with their actual identity.
