Not welcome

THE Pope is not welcome to these islands given the disgraceful response of the Vatican and his clergy to systematic sexual violation of our defenceless children over generations.

In recent times the Pope has refused to accept the resignations of two bishops named in the Ryan report while the Papal Nuncio in Dublin did not answer requests for information and was not helpful with the report. Pope Benedict’s pastoral letter to the Irish faithful was hollow in substance and lacked all credibility. He should apologise to all victims of child abuse and stop offending the victims by his inaction. Until such time as the Pontiff addresses these questions, he should hang his head in shame.
