YOUR headline (September 8) informing us that the Government is receiving 6,000 tip-offs regarding social welfare fraud seems reassuring at first sight.

It suggests the Government is being frugal and watchful when it comes to distributing taxpayers’ money. However, when compared with the total lack of such diligent stewardship of what “the suits” are up to, combined with the recent nonsense from Batt O’Keeffe about people on the dole turning down jobs with salaries of €25,000 a year, it all begins to look like part of the usual propoganda campaign to soften opposition to further cuts in welfare in the upcoming budget.

It seems the only thing the Government is diligent about is ensuring that the most vulnerable pick up the tag for their decade of misrule
