PROF David Farrell of UCD’s politics department is surprised there has been no physical reaction to the state of Irish politics and society in general along the lines of that in Greece (August 31).

I don’t understand his surprise given his field of expertise. The Irish people as a whole have never shown the courage to rebel.

Yes, we have had little groups through our history who have shown some courage and a sense of duty as citizens to the greater good of society, but they have been few and far between.
