Government must go

WITH Anglo Irish Bank’s latest losses of €8.2bn (almost certainly an understatement), the time has long since come for the removal of the Government.

Government must go

It has no mandate for what it is doing and it is also a lie to say there is no alternative economic strategy. Alternatives have proved far more successful in other countries.

Neither has it been the case, as Brian Lenihan claims, that anyone ever thought or said anger alone was a solution to anything. But it is a necessary precondition for taking the tough decisions that the opposition parties have so far been so weak at doing, ie, to confront the rich and the powerful, who are the beneficiaries of this situation, rather than beating up on the poorest which our oh-so-tough-guy Government has been doing. Yes, brave men and women that they are. The problem is not a lack of solutions but a fixation on the one that bails out friends and backers at everyone else’s expense.
