Alcohol – a drug served by amateurs

IF alcohol is a drug, why is it being dispensed by people who have no qualifications to dispense drugs? Is any member of the Vintners Federation of Ireland, staff at off-licences or in supermarkets suitably qualified to do so?

All the expensive advertising by ‘drink aware’ groups advising people to drink sensibly is only a hypocritical smokescreen if this situation is allowed to continue. We might just as well legalise narcotics and advise people to take them sensibly.

Lawmakers should ensure that everyone who serves alcoholic drink should have a suitable qualification to serve a drug.
