Road safety - Be aware of children

With the beginning of the new school year, the Road Safety Authority has called on parents and teachers to highlight the importance of road safety among children, especially those starting school for the first time. Some 80,000 high visibility vests are being distributed to schools for children to wear.

The children should be made safety conscious from the outset, whether they are walking, cycling, or being driven to school.

The high visibility vests, sponsored by the ESB, will be distributed in safety packs to every primary and secondary school. Junior Education Minister Seán Haughey has asked that parents and teachers stress road safety as a priority. All road users should be particularly vigilant of children at this time of the year.
