Suspension a laugh

AS if Ivor Callely would fear losing the Fianna Fáil whip.

Suspension a laugh

As if he would fear being expelled from the “mother party”.

Mr Callely’s current suspension from the Seanad is a laugh given that he was not required to repay any of his expenses. His recent excommunication from Fianna Fáil is equally laughable given his eligibility for dual life-long Dáil pension payments, regardless of any future findings.

Surely the question is one of restitution, and of retrospective review of pension eligibility.

Even Gilbert and Sullivan understood the notion of making “the punishment fit the crime”.
