Would we still have to pay for privatised RTÉ?

CAN the state give financial support to a private business under EU competition rules?

If the Government privatised RTÉ, could they continue to fund it legally out of the revenue collected from TV licences?

Perhaps everybody might then qualify for a free TV licence. We might yet see the end of that form of double taxation. Better still, we would not have to suffer cringeworthy radio advertisements featuring the smug “television licence inspector”.
