I WAS very interested to read the letter (July 6) from Des Groome, a vet in Kildare, whose profession has a vested interest in what Environment Minister John Gormley wished to impose on greyhound-owners.

Of course it would have suited vets to have had this legislation imposed in full as there is nothing they like better than to get well paid for a visit in which they don’t have to dirty their hands.

Only someone with a lack of understanding of today’s greyhound market in Britain would make such a silly statement as to say there is a lucrative trade for Irish greyhounds there despite falling attendances and track closures over the past five years.
