City is the real loser in stadium grounds vote

I READ with dismay that Cork city councillors who voted in favour of the land acquisition by the GAA adjacent to Páirc Uí Chaoimh now say after the vote that the finished stadium should be opened up to all codes.

City is the real loser in stadium grounds vote

This should have been a proviso before granting the land, not a flippant vote-getting statement afterwards.

This shortsightedness has cost Cork city dear as it will never have a facility to rival Limerick or elsewhere for any major sporting or concert venue.

Earlier this year, the Cork county GAA board were up in arms over the Munster rugby squad using Nemo Rangers’ training facilities.

Do the councillors honestly believe the county board will allow other codes to use the hallowed turf? Answers on a postcard please to “Lunacy, Folly in the Extreme, Corcaigh”.
