HOW refreshing it was to see Graeme McDowell deliver the patience and mental strength needed to become the first-ever Irish golfer to win the US Open championship.

McDowell has continued the trend which sees Irish golfers achieve what British and other European golfers have not been able to in recent history: win major championships.

Graeme McDowell’s major victory complements Padraig Harrington’s excellent triumphs for Ireland at the US PGA and British Open championships.

All we need now is for an Irish golfer to wear the Green Jacket at the US Masters. How fitting would that be?
