Eagle deaths a scandal

THE recent poisoning of white-tailed and golden eagles in Kerry and Donegal has cast us in some ecological shame as a nation. It has put me right off buying Irish lamb.

However, realising that the culprits are a minority of irresponsible farmers, perhaps it is time for An Bord Bia and the IFA to introduce a code of practice reflected by an “eagle-friendly lamb” label analogous to “dolphin friendly tuna”. Consumers then have a choice to purchase a product not produced by irresponsible practices.
