Poisons problem

THE latest eagle poisoning cases in Kerry show that state agencies are not talking to each other. On my farm I have had a couple of Bord Bia inspections for which I must have a map of rodent bait points – but they don’t produce a list of bait I can use that won’t cause secondary poisoning.

The rat eats the poison laid down so that when it dies and another animal eats it, that creature too will be poisoned.

Surely the National Parks and Wildlife Service should have a list of ‘safe’ poisons they can give to Bord Bia so that I can see in print what is best to use. These various departments need to get their act together and produce a list for farmers, and indeed non-farmers, that could be advertised in newspapers.
