THE British scrappage scheme subsidising the purchase of 330,000 cars by £2,000 is claimed to have supported 4,000 jobs.

That’s £165,000 per job. It would have been better just to lay off the workers and give them the money.

Now the scheme has ended, we are back to square one and there is still excess capacity in motor industry.
