Defining Americans

IN her chiding of Joe Higgins MEP for his lack of historical sense, Joyce Anderson Gleasure (Letters, March 29) describes her people as being American who, as she implied, have done so much good in the world by killing and bombing civilians into friendship and democracy.

May I respectfully remind her that Americans come from the continent of America, not just from the US. Therefore, by definition, Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez are Americans.

Those from the United State should more precisely be called “US-ers” or to put that in joined-up writing ...
