Drivers face test

WITH reference to Michael Job’s letter (March 22) about the introduction of regulations for medical testing in order to obtain a HGV licence, there is such a test in place and it includes an eye test.

Anyone applying for a HGV licence, or renewing a licence, must undergo a full medical exam. This has been in operation for at least 10 years and, yes, the RSA/AA are quite correct to point out that pedestrians have a responsibility for their own safety when walking or crossing the road.

Mr Job has only to walk into any town to observe pedestrians crossing wherever they please while paying no heed to traffic.
