WITH regard to the opening of pubs on Good Friday, many people seem to think it’s time church and state practices should be separated.

If this were to happen, wouldn’t it automatically follow that St Patrick’s Day would no longer be a public holiday and would surely revert to being a church holiday? Imagine what that would do to the impoverished publicans’ coffers. It’s called having your cake and eating it.
