Our debt per head

FINANCE Minister Brian Lenihan has just committed €81bn of our money to bail out the banks.

Written out properly that’s €81,000,000,000 and there are only 4,500,000 people in the country to foot the bill. That comes to €180,000 per head (man, woman and child).

I don’t have my contribution, so I’ll have to go to the bank to borrow it. Repayments come to €1,097 per month over 20 years and I can’t take my wife’s income into consideration as she’s in hock for €180,000 as well.
