IT’S telling that Mary Hanafin’s recent move from Welfare to Arts is seen as a demotion.

Remember there are countries where the arts are actually considered important ... France, Germany, Austria, Italy and even Britain (only a country which thinks the arts are important could come up with a festival like the Proms), to name but a few.

Arts are, and probably always will be, at the bottom of the pile in Ireland.
