Vatican connived in worldwide cover-up

IT’S no surprise that Cardinal Seán Brady won’t resign following the disclosure of his part in the cover-up of Fr Brendan Smyth’s sexual assaults on children as far back as 1975.

From the attitude of the three spokesmen representing their fellow-bishops at last week’s press conference, it is obvious the church hierarchy has circled the wagons on the scandal of paedophile priests and they are not going to bow to pressure for resignations or demonstrate any signs of true humility for the church’s consistent policy of cover-up.

The church won’t allow any softening of its hardline stance because the cover-up was carried out worldwide with the connivance of the Vatican.
