Bay health risk
I have had a life-long association with Courtmacsherry Bay. Twenty years ago the water was clean. Now, to put it kindly, it’s filthy.
I wonder why?
Could it possibly be that during this time, hundreds of houses have been built in the Timoleague and Courtmacsherry area and the sewage, etc, is all ending up in the bay, unsuitably treated, going out and in with the tide?
The water has now become such a serious health hazard that very few swim in the area.
Agricultural pollution is also a factor. Those who enjoy sailboarding and surfing, etc., will in future have no access to the sea. If our beaches were clean again, and made available for water sports, visitors might return next year on the new Cork-Swansea ferry.
