IT was with absolute incredulity I learned from Matt Cooper (The Last Word, Today FM, March 8) that gardaí are using personal laptops to carry out their duties.

This raises a very serious matter for the Data Protection Commissioner. If there is data on a laptop relating to an investigation into a crime and details of an individual are part of this data, then where is the protection for that individual who may never be charged or even acquitted.

That this did not occur to a GRA representative would lead me to think the Templemore training facility is suffering from the same grade inflation that exists in our education system.
