Distracting us from the real problems

I IMAGINE there are tons of letters on George Lee’s resignation – here’s mine from Japan:

I would hope that all those who enter politics do so with a high degree of idealism.

However, if everyone was as intractable as George Lee, government would not function. He seems unsuitable for government and a poster boy for the phrase “He who can’t, teaches”.

It is also incomprehensible for any right-minded person to quit their job without first voicing their concerns to their superiors. Lee maintains that it is policy more than celebrity (“roadshows” in his own words) that he was interested in.

Fair enough, but it seems that he waited for the front bench to consult him rather than offering his advice and views.

The debacle that followed once again reduced the respectability of the Dáil and distracted the public from the problems that they should be focusing on, namely how on earth to get out of the mess that we’re in.
