A question of power

AFTER listening and watching the wall-to-wall blanket coverage on RTÉ radio and TV on the sudden and sullen departure of George Lee from Dáil Eireann and the Fine Gael party, I wonder is this a question of power (the lack of) rather than influence.

This blanket coverage shows once again the obsession of the Irish people and Irish media who have blown this story way out of proportion.

Yes, George Lee has credentials and a proven track record. If he is such a purist why did he not run as an independent? He has now left two jobs that pay multiples of the average industrial wage to one man and he has the option to return to RTÉ.

What a pity the last 24 hours were not devoted to trying to find a way to help the 400,000 plus people on the dole get jobs instead of trying to satisfy George Lee’s obsession for power.
