FG fails to adopt change we can believe in

THERE have been some question marks in recent days over Enda Kenny’s ability to lead Fine Gael into Government.

FG fails to adopt change we can believe in

These doubts are the result of some seriously weak media performances in recent weeks. However, some of the comments made by George Lee today on RTÉ’s News at One with Sean O’Rourke and on Liveline were a real eye opener into the real state of the party and its leadership.

When you consider that back on May 6, 2009, George Lee was quoted as saying “Fine Gael is the Party that will make the changes necessary – that will take on vested interests in the national interest and is the party that can lead us from our current catastrophe. I believe that Fine Gael is the political party best placed to provide the new leadership and vision that the country desperately needs”.

However, nine months later George Lee is unable to say if there is anybody in Fine Gael capable of being a good leader. This is a man who joined Fine Gael with huge aspirations and plenty of respect for it, but is now left wholly disillusioned with the party leadership and clearly doesn’t believe it can lead us out of this economic crisis. They weren’t prepared to use him or take on board any fresh new ideas.
