Forget Dublin – fix the crazy rural road limits

INSTEAD of a 30km/h speed limit in Dublin, the Government and the RSA should have corrected the ludicrous 100km/h speed limits on many sections of national routes which are so poorly maintained.

Forget Dublin – fix the crazy rural road limits

National primary and secondary routes are full of these anomalies. An example is the N72 west of Fermoy. There are many more examples of small villages on ‘N’ routes through which the 100km/h limit applies. It is five years since metric speed limits were introduced. We were told then that the blanket 100km/h on ‘N’ and 80km/h on ‘R’ roads would be reviewed and changed as appropriate.

The energies of the agencies responsible should be focused in this direction rather than their headline-grabbing restrictions in Dublin and possibly in Cork and Galway too.
