How free is RTÉ?

FERGUS Finlay missed one very important point when criticising the media (January 26).

How free is RTÉ?

He acknowledges that the privately-owned media tend to publish whatever their own commercial instincts tell them and this may or may not be in the interests of freedom of the press. But he makes no reference to so-called public service media like RTÉ which is maintained by licence fee. At present RTÉ tends to act as a deferential PR agency for the Government. This is definitely not in the interests of “freedom of the press”.
